Most of the overhead circuit lines are laid in the vast deserted areas,
so it is often damaged by birds.
1、How are the overhead circuit lines
damaged by birds?
(1)Some birds like to build nest on circuit lines by branches
which will not cause trouble in dry day. In the rainy day, the branches
will meet the lead wire and cause earthing accident.
(2)In the windy day, if the bird’s nest is blown from the circuit
lines, it may leave its branches or little wires on the lead wire
and cause earthing or tripping operation.
(3)The bird’s dung can cause flashover of the isolator on the circuit
line. First: the dung can pollute the beeline isolator bunch and
cause flashover. Second, bird’s dung is conducting liquid and it
will result short circuit and single-phase earthing.
(4)Some birds like to cross circuit lines or fly over circuit lines
with braches or short wires. They may cause earthing or interphase
short circuit.
2、Solutions to bird hazard
(1)Hang bird scarer on circuit haulm
The method is originally used in rural areas. People can hang something
on the circuit haulm, like dead bird, grass man, fan, color flag,
viewfinder. It is proved that people have to change the bird scarer
after some days, otherwise it will not work since birds can adapt
to it.
(2)Install bird repeller on circuit haulm
a.We can put triangle board in the cross of the stanchion and the
arm to avoid bird build nest on it.
b. Bundle the tower top with iron wire or nylon to keep bird outside
the tower.
c. Put dung prevention cover made of isolator board on the isolator
bunch to keep bird dung away from isolators.
d. Install a galvanized needle plate on where birds like to stand
so that the bird can not damage the circuit line.
e. Install the ultrasonic
bird repller or digital bird repeller.
(3)In the bird season, people can be more active to destroy bird
nest.
(4)To the protected birds, we can create some facilities for birds
near overhead circuit lines and attract them to stay in these facilities.
(5)In the bird assembling area, people can repel birds with guns
or crackers.
(6)Electricity authority should cooperate with the mass to repel
birds and protect circuit lines.
3、Notes:
1. Keep a safe distance from the circuit lines to prevent
electricity shock when removing bird nest.
2. Use insulating bar to remove bird nest from lead wire on tower
top.
3. Keep the branches and wires away from the lead wire when removing
bird nest.
4. To the birds who rebuild nests near the circuit line, we should
put more effort to repel them.
5. Scare the protected birds instead of killing them.
